Introducing the Solfit 15-year insurance-backed assurance for eligible new-build solar installations

Following our exclusive ATMOCE partnership announcement, we are delighted to now offer a 15-year insurance-backed assurance guarantee with SafeWorld and Qualitymark, adding a further layer of long-term support to our roof-integrated solar offering for UK housebuilders.

The agreement reflects a question that is increasingly important when specifying renewable technology for new homes: what happens if roof-mounted equipment needs attention years after completion?

At Solfit, delivering a safer, more standardised solution starts with how the system is designed. Our AC architecture using ATMOCE technology converts solar-generated electricity from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) at each panel. This avoids conventional high-voltage DC strings and their associated connections across the roof, removes the need for high-voltage solar DC cable runs through the fabric of the property, and removes the need for a conventional solar string inverter in a loft or cupboard. DC connections remain local to each panel and its microinverter, with AC power carried onwards into the home.

But a responsible approach to safety means looking beyond the electrical architecture. With electronics installed at roof level, we also recognise the importance of planning for access, maintenance and long-term responsibility. Addressing one set of risks means understanding and managing the different practical responsibilities and liabilities associated with the solution.

A manufacturer’s warranty may provide a replacement component for an eligible failure, but putting equipment right can also involve roof access, scaffolding and skilled labour. These practicalities matter to housebuilders, specialist installers and homeowners alike.

The agreed 15-year insurance-backed assurance is designed to address eligible parts, access and labour costs, including scaffolding where covered, in accordance with the applicable policy terms, limits, excesses and eligibility requirements. It is intended to complement, not replace, the manufacturer’s warranty or the role of qualified installation professionals.

Our approach draws on decades of experience in the new-build housing sector combined with the expertise of specialist installation businesses that support delivery. The wider aim is to help housebuilders make informed specification decisions with greater clarity about the responsibilities that continue beyond handover.

Lee Chadwick, Group Managing Director at Solfit, said:

“Choosing the right electrical architecture is important, but so is understanding what that choice means over the life of a home. Our work with ATMOCE addresses the system design, while the agreement with SafeWorld and Qualitymark demonstrates that we have also considered the practical costs and responsibilities associated with maintaining equipment at roof level.

Specialist installation partners have a vital role in delivering renewable energy to the new-build sector. We want our approach to support a more consistent and assured outcome for housebuilders and homeowners, while recognising that successful delivery depends on the knowledge and experience of those partners.”

Solfit will provide further information on applicable cover, eligibility and the operation of the assurance through its customer and project documentation. The agreement is a further step in Solfit’s long-term strategy to develop a coordinated renewable energy solution for new-build housing.
